Interview: R.J. Anderson

First off i just want to thank Rebecca for letting me interview you! You are awesome! It was a lot of fun talking to you!

The Favorites Category:

Q: Favorite Color?
RA: Blue.

Q: Favorite animal?
RA: Cat.

Q: Favorite Game Show?
RA: Jeopardy!

Q: Favorite Mythical Creature?
RA: Dragon.

Q: Favorite Beverage?
RA: Tea, Earl Gray, hot.

Q: Favorite YA author?
RA: I have too many to choose! But I'll mention two fantastic ones that your readers may not have heard of (but should!):  Catherine Fisher (Incarceron) and Elizabeth E. Wein (The Lion Hunter, The Empty Kingdom).

Q: Favorite Month and Why?
RA: October, because autumn is my favorite season and I love the beautiful colors.

Q: Favorite Holiday?
RA: Easter. Remembering Christ's death is important to me, and it's a lovely time of year, and what's not to like about chocolate?

Q: Favorite Flower?
RA: Lily Of The Valley. I love the way it smells.

Q: Favorite Website?
RA: Right now, it is the 2009 Debs at http://community.livejournal.com/debut2009

Writing Questions:

Q: What type of books do you like to read while you are writing?
RA: I tend to read whatever books look interesting to me-sometimes that's non-fiction I can use research, but more often it's just an intriguing-looking new MG or YA book, or an old comforting favorite. I don't deliberatley shy away from books in the same genre, as my own, or deliberatley seek them out either-I read whatever comes to hand, really.

Q: Do you like to listen to music while you write?
RA: Sometimes, but only instrumental, or music I know so well it won't disract me. If I feel uptight about the writing process, music can loosen me up a bit. But on the other hand, if I really try and concentrate, it can become annoying.

Q: Are you going to write any other young adult novels after Faery Rebels?
RA: The second Faery Rebels book will be coming out in 2010. I am also working on a non-series YA paranormal for an older teen audience, and making notes for a possible third Faery Rebles book.

Questions about the author:

Q: If you could turn into a bird what kind of bird would it be?
RA: A kestrel. I love birds of prey, and kestrels have particularly lovely plumage; I've also been told they are the only raptor that sings, and I'm a singer as well.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
RA: You know those little chocolate covered marshmellow brooms you can buy in convenience stores around Halloween? I love them. The staler and and chewier the marshmellow, the better.

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
RA: I would love to go to New Zealand one day; I've wanted that since I was a child, and I've never been because it's so far (and expensive!). But I would also be thrilled to make a second to Israel, or a third to Wales.

Q: What is your weirdest work experience?
RA: I did a lot of temporary secretarial jobs when I was younger, and on one of them I worked for a man who was very volatile and more than a bit of a control freak. The first day I was on the job I had to photocopy about fifty bundles of papers for him and staple them together, which I did very neatly and carefully becasue I was very eager to impress my new boss. He took one look at them and said, " You put in the staples in vertically. I want them horizontally. Do it all over again."

Q: When you were little what was your dream occupation?
RA: My very first ambition was to work for Jim Henson as a Muppeteer.

Q: What is the last gift you recieved?
RA: A dear friend gave me a lovely crystal vase for my birthday.

Q: How many states have you been to?
RA: Hmmm...So far I've been to Michigan, Wiscoinsin, West Virginia, Minnesota, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Florida, and California. Not bad for a Canadian, eh?

Thanks again Rebecca!
